The Truth Will Win Out; The Legacy of Hannah Senesh
24"x 36” acrylic on canvas
I was inspired to create this piece after reading a biography of Hannah Senesh. Captured and imprisoned during WW2, she refused to divulge information that would throw Allied lives in jeopardy, despite torture. Senesh’s fortitude was unbelievable.
The way she stood up at her trial, refusing to plead guilty and yelling at her accusers: “It is not I who is a traitor but you! One day the world will know.” The way she was marched to gunpoint and refused a blindfold, instead watching calmly as bullets bore into her body.
Hannah’s strength comforts me, as do all those who march on despite it all, head up, eyes wide open, ready to handle the repercussions, refusing to turn away.
Those who find that fortitude within themselves pave the path towards a better future for all of us.
The world finds out, sooner or later. May justice continue to prevail.
